House Manager (Trustee Emeritus)

Paul Exner Photo Paul (Ex) grew up in Adams, Massachusetts and attended WPI from which he graduated with a BS in chemical engineering in 1971. He was a second semester sophomore pledge to Sigma Pi – Gamma Iota (SPGI) after being recruited by his freshman dorm buddies. At SPGI Ex served as house manager. Ex next attended the University of Pennsylvania from which he graduated with a MS-ChE in 1973. He worked at an engineering company in Philadelphia for 6 years during which time he met and married his wife, Christine. Ex worked on the design of chemical production facilities; but he also had a strong interest in environmental control systems. He developed expertise is wastewater engineering, solid waste systems, and air pollution control. When his dad got sick, he moved back to Massachusetts in 1978, working for a number of environmental engineering companies in the Boston area (and as a private consultant) over the next 30+ years, with a focus on hazardous waste site cleanup. Christine and Ex bought a house in Reading in 1979 where they still live. They have been married for 40 years; have two daughters, and three grandsons.

Ex was elected to the PTN Board of Trustees in 1980, serving three 3-year terms. He was the project manager for the siding of the Chapter House and the installation of double-pane windows in 1986. He also was the inventor of the summer outing and edited the Gamma Iota News during his trustee tenure. When the House ran into trouble in 2014, Ex rejoined the Board. He has been responsible for the management of the House renovations which include the sprinkler and alarm.
