Stories from Hackfeld Road - First PTN/SP house

The first year in Psi Theta Nu's first house, we had an old front loader washing machine in the basement.  But the vibration of the spin cycle would cause it to walk across the cellar floor until it pulled its own plug.  The first attempt to fix the problem by our group of aspiring engineers  was to put a blanket on top of the washer and ride it. This solution worked if you got there in time to ride during the spin cycle, and also resulted in a name for the washer - Pecos Bill.  The final solution was to bolt Pecos Bill to an old door, and hold him in place with a 2 by 4 wedged against the ceiling. Not only did this restrain Bill's tendency to wander,  it shook the whole house during the spin cycle.  When the shaking stopped, you knew your laundry was done.
